„Nietzsche Seminar” is the concept of series of noninstitutional, annual conferences of a few dozen leading Polish, and in future also foreign, scholars and lovers of Friedrich Nietzsche’s work. Conferences will take place in Ublik (near Orzysz, Mazury) in June. The initiative of the meetings was put forward by their host, prof. Cezary Wodziński, and by prof. Bogdan Banasiak and prof. Paweł Pieniążek, who personally invite the guests.
The objective of the initiators is to establish a regular cooperation and the exchange of ideas between those scholars (not only philosophers, but also representatives of other liberal arts), for whom the essential inspiration and the subject of investigation is the work, the person and the phenomenon of Friedrich Nietzsche.
The third edition od the seminar, entitled
Nietzsche and the tradition of antiquity,
will be held in 2010.
The first edition of the seminar, entitled Nietzsche: system or divagations?, was held on May 17th 2008 in Pobierowo.
The second edition of the seminar, entitled Nietzsche – provoker or moralist?, was held on May 23-26th in Przesieka.
The effects of the meetings will be regularly published as the books (edition Adam Marszałek). These books will create a series of volumes dedicated to the enquiries into Nietzsche’s thought (they will come out under the shared title Nietzsche Seminar with the subtitle corresponding to the program of successive editions of seminar). Volumes will consist of the papers presented during the seminar, papers written particularly to consecutive volumes, translation of foreign papers, reviews of nietzschean publications, notes on the state of Nietzsche studies, and so on. In the future the seminar work will be accompanied by the separate translatory publications, and the meetings will have become more and more interdisciplinary and comparative.
“Nietzsche Seminar” project has its own Internet site (in Polish, English, German, and French), which will include information on forthcoming edition of the seminar, abstracts of lectures, list of guests, reports on the proceedings, detailed bibliographies (subjective and objective), chronology of Nietzsche’s life and work, papers made available by their authors, gallery, and so on.
